Description
About this Item:This is an incredibly rare, original, c. 1918 German aircraft identification chart printed at the end of World War I. The only other example I've been able to find is owned by the National Air and Space Museum (see https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/schattenriffe-der-deutschen-kriegsflugzeug-1914-1918-tafel-3/nasm_A19900874000).
This is a large and wonderfully well-done print that would be truly magnificent framed and displayed in your home.
This poster is a relief or letterpress of German bombers and seaplanes printed in black ink on slightly off-white paper. Some of the more famous aircraft include the Gotha, Albatross, Rumpler and Friedrichshafen. The title is "Schattenriffe der deutchen Kriedsflugzequge 1914-1918 (Tafel 3"). This translates to: "Shadow reef (Sillhouettes?) of German warplanes, 1914-18 (Chart 3)".
At bottom right is printed: "Entwurf und Zeichnung W. Stiasny, Berlin." Translated this means "Design and Drawing by W. Stiasny, Berlin"
It measures 13 1/2" x by 18 1/8"
The print is wrapped in plastic and laying on a thick backer-board (it is not glued or taped to the backer).
