    Description

    ~Len Wood's Indian Territory~
Historic Era Hopi Indian Cream Slip Polychrome Pot
    Abstract Bird Motifs
    c.1900-1920
Unsigned, Attributed to Nampeyo of Hano
(Nampeyo , born 1860, the matriarch of 20th century Hopi pottery, and the second earliest known pueblo potter,
could not write and never signed her pottery
although her very last works were signed by her daughter Fannie who also helped with painting as Nampeyo was losing her vision
This is believed to be a turn of the century Nampeyo as it is consistent with known examples of her forms,
and painting and is the proper time period and probably pre-dates her daughter's assistance)
A beautiful early example in form , painting and condition.
    Hand-coiled clay pottery
    5" x 8"
Mint or near mint condition with no damage. From a private estate collection
